Exterior cleaning for civic and university estate, town-centre retail and car parks, valley mills, and the industrial and logistics units near the M62, across Huddersfield and the HD postcodes.
Huddersfield and Kirklees
Huddersfield's centre was built in a short, confident burst of Victorian stonework, and a lot of what we are asked to look after is a building that was meant to be seen.
The railway station fronting St George's Square, a Grade I listed building with a colonnaded front, is the clearest example of how the centre was designed to impress, and the streets round it are lined with the same dressed stone. Alongside that is a university whose campus grew through the town centre, a ring of modern office and retail development, and the Kingsgate shopping centre with its car park.
Out from the centre the picture changes to valley mills along the River Colne and Holme, many now converted to workspace or storage, and to the industrial and distribution units that sit near the M62. The ground rises quickly on every side of the town, which puts a lot of these sites at altitude, in exposed positions, with the wet and wind that go with it.

On a university or civic site, much of the work is about timing and keeping routes clear for people who still need to use the building.
Term time, events and opening hours set when exterior work can be done on an institutional site.
On a valley mill, access and drainage usually decide the method before the surface does.
A town of public buildings, institutions and mills has different priorities from a purely industrial one.
Listed Victorian frontages are cleaned to preserve the stone, not to make it look new. That usually means gentle, low-pressure work, careful control of water, and an agreed finish before anyone starts.
A university or college has many buildings, all with students and staff moving past them. Walkways, plazas and entrance areas are cleaned in short, scheduled windows that suit the academic calendar.
Shopping-centre and public car parks in the centre are a mix of decked and surface space. Cleaning followed by re-marking is done a deck at a time, so spaces stay available.
Textile mills up the valleys have been turned into offices, units and showrooms. They have large roofs, long gutter runs, and yards that are shared between tenants who all want something different.
Buildings high above the valley floor take the weather harder. Moss builds in gutters and on flat roofs, and shaded elevations of cladding go green sooner than the same panels would in a sheltered position.
Warehouses and yards near the motorway carry diesel, tyre rubber and silt. They are cleaned in phases around vehicle movements, and run-off has to be kept out of surface water.

Huddersfield sits between Halifax, Bradford and Barnsley, and we work across all of them. Each has its own page.
Yes, with care. Listed stone is cleaned gently and the method is set out in advance so it can be agreed with whoever has to approve it. Anything abrasive is off the table.
Yes. On an institutional site the programme is built around the calendar. Exterior work is usually done at quieter times, and areas are cleared in sections so routes stay open.
They are more exposed and wetter. Moss and algae establish faster, and gutters and flat roofs on high ground collect debris from exposed trees. The interval comes down to the individual building.
